Booming India

Its vitality and continuing growth rate make India one of the biggest future markets. When observing the rules set by the Indian market and when applying a business model adapted for Indian requirements, the opportunities for European companies exceed the market risks. Today already, India is one of the most populous countries in the world and will probably replace China as the most populous country as there will be 1.5 billions of people living in India in 2025. By 2050, India is expected to have the world’s third largest economy.

There is an enormous growth potential for almost every sector in India.

Here are a few examples:

Food processing and packaging machines:

India's market potential in the food industry is high. Although India is the second-largest producer of agricultural commodities worldwide, food processing is still in an early stage of development. Investments in this sector are likely to rise in the next years. There is high demand for technology for setting up an infrastructure for the transport, cooling and storage of food. Also, the demand for food processing and packaging machines is rising. This demand can not be met exclusively out of India's production which leads to a strong demand for foreign machinery and equipment featuring state-of-the-art technology.

Machines in the high-tech segment are mostly imported. The subcontinent imported packaging and processing machines for beverages and food worth 662 million euros in 2012. Germany is, after Italy, the second most important supplier country with a share of 15%.

Solar / PV Industry

The Indian solar market is currently undergoing sweeping developments. The Indian solar market is in the midst of a rapid development in which the country is dependent on know-how and equipment from international suppliers. By 2022 India would like to build solar power capacity of 22 GW and to install 20 million square meters of collector area for solar water heating. (www.gtai.de)

Solar Power application in India is not in accordance with that in the Global market. In India majority of the SPV is off-grid. The major usage of SPV are decentralized energy systems (Solar street lighting, Solar power plants for villages and community usage like schools, hospitals, etc.) Urban India is adopting the concept of SPV for heating water.
